Support Group

images
The term support group is often misunderstood and attributed to addiction therapy. These groups are used with or without therapy to help people get through life challenges in a more empowered way.

Sometimes half the battle is realizing that you are not the only one going through that issue, and that there is nothing wrong with you. I often hear people say in my groups, “You know, when I decided to participate in the group, I felt such a sense of relief about not being the only one having this problem.” Expressing your emotions in a safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive environment can be very healing and empowering. Other benefits are learning helpful information and tips, gaining, and practicing coping skills, and getting recommendations for resources. Support groups can help build hope, reduce stress, increase insights, build and strengthen communities. Lastly, support groups are often more affordable. If you haven’t yet participated in a group, consider giving it a try.
